Philip Booth, a Florida native, has written about pop culture for a variety of publications. His reviews and essays on film and books have variously appeared in the St. Petersburg Times, Las Vegas City Life, Folio Weekly, Tampa Tribune, Sarasota Herald-Tribune, Orlando Weekly, The Journal of Popular Culture, The Journal of American Culture, Literature Film Quarterly, and online in Pop Matters and the journal SawPalm.
Philip, a graduate of the University of Florida (B.A., history) and the University of South Florida (M.A., English), is a member of the Florida Film Critics Circle (FFCC) and The Hemingway Society.
Philip, also an actively gigging bass player, continues to contribute music coverage to DownBeat, Jazziz, JazzTimes, and Relix. His byline additionally has appeared online at Salon.com, and in the pages of Spin, Bass Player, Billboard, Rolling Stone, Variety, CMJ New Music Monthly, Option, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Boston Globe, Miami New Times, Philadelphia City Paper, Atlanta Creative Loafing, Tampa Creative Loafing, and many other publications. He was the pop music critic for the Tampa Tribune from 1988 to 1996.
Philip lives in Tampa, where he and his wife Callie are charged with the care and feeding of two college-student kids, and a lovable basset hound.
