“Looper”: Mindbending Mix of Sci-Fi, Action, Crime Thriller (review)

A few things I loved about “Looper”:

  • Awesomely mindbending sci-fi concept, smartly executed, sure to leave one formulating just how to ask all the questions generated by the old-self-meets-young-self storyline
  • Appealing, sympathetic performances by Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who do kinda’ resemble each other
  • Scene-stealing stuff from Jeff Daniels as a laidback, kinda’ funny guy, shaggy haired and endowed with a salt-and-pepper beard, who’s also a mighty fearsome mob type
  • A knock-out turn by Pierce Gagnon as the scariest (and alternately cutest) maybe-evil little kid I’ve seen since Damien
  • Strong supporting work by Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Piper Perabo
  • Flying motorcycles

Nicely done, director Rian Johnson. This one has the potential to blow up big, I think
